Improved community spaces and safer connections at Hoppers Crossing Station

We removed the level crossing at Old Geelong Road, Hoppers Crossing in December 2021 with a new road bridge, directly connecting Old Geelong Road to Princes Highway.

The new 1.2km road bridge provides a direct connection from Old Geelong Road to Princes Highway, enabling safer and more reliable journeys.

In 2022, the new overpass at Hoppers Crossing Station will open, providing a safe connection over the rail line for pedestrians, cyclists, and rail passengers.

New landscaped plazas with secure bike parking, drop off areas, seating and drinking fountains will be built at the former level crossing site, improving connections to the station and shopping precinct.

New pedestrian and cyclist overpass

The new overpass will safely connect pedestrians and cyclists over the rail line to Hoppers Crossing Station, Princes Highway and the broader Hoppers Crossing shopping precinct.

Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to access the overpass from the station and at entries either side of the rail line, using stairs or oversized lifts connected to backup power.

Cyclists who do not want to dismount at Old Geelong Road can cross the rail line at David Court, Derrimut Road or Skeleton Waterholes Creek.

The overpass will be protected from the weather with a roof and canopies at ground level.

We'll build additional bike storage on both sides of the rail line, so passengers cycling to Hoppers Crossing Station will be able to securely store their bikes before catching the train.

New station overpass and plazas

Landscaped plazas and a new overpass will create better connections for rail passengers and people getting to local shops in Hoppers Crossing

The new Hoppers Crossing Station precinct will include:

  • Secure bike parking, more bike hoops, and a bike repair station
  • Station forecourt seating and drinking fountains
  • Sheltered bus stops
  • Landscaping with a mix of native and exotic drought tolerant trees, shrubs and grasses
  • Improved station facilities and more lighting
  • Kiss-and-ride bays for drop off and pick up
  • Walking and cycling path connections

Easier access to station car parks

When the project is complete, the western car parks will reopen with better connections to the station, Princes Highway, and the Hoppers Crossing shopping precinct.

Resilient landscaping

The southern plaza will feature a garden of flowering shrubs called Woody Meadow landscaping.

This style of landscaping is designed for natural visual appeal, biodiversity, weed resistance and climate resistance.

The Woody Meadow garden at Hoppers Crossing Station will include native plants such as hibiscus, grevilleas and bottlebrushes.
