As part of the planning for the Melbourne Airport Rail Project, a referral was submitted to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water under the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conversation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).
The referral outlined Matters of National Environmental Significance within sections of the project area and the approach that will be adopted to manage these matters.
The approval of the Melbourne Airport Rail Project - Corridor Section referral (EPBC 2021/9081) was issued to Victoria’s Department of Transport (DoT) on 22 December 2022 to upgrade the existing rail corridor between Jacana Station and south of Barwon Avenue, Sunshine North, Victoria (herein referred to as ‘the Project’).
In accordance with the EPBC Act approval (EPBC 2021/9081), within 60 days of every 12-month period following the date of this approval (22 December 2022), a report must be published on the Victoria’s Big Build website addressing compliance with each of the approval conditions.
Three compliance reports have been prepared and published to address the current status of the Project against the conditions for approval of the EPBC Act referral 2021/9081.
