13 October 2026

We are delivering stage 1 of Melbourne Airport Rail, with the Australian and Victorian governments investing more than $4 billion to deliver 6km of major rail upgrades from West Footscray to Albion. The works will include transforming Sunshine into a transport superhub and building new modern and accessible stations at Tottenham and Albion.

We’re continuing to work at night on Sunshine Road, where we are relocating power underground to clear the way for future Melbourne Airport Rail Stage 1 works.

Overnight works that started in early September are progressing well. Throughout October and November we will be working further east on Sunshine Road, near the corner of Sredna, Ashley and Dempster streets. We will be in touch with impacted residents ahead of time.

In late October and early November, we will also work during the day to relocate underground traffic signals at the corner of Sunshine Road and Olympia Street.

What we’re doing

From Tuesday 27 October to Friday 30 October and Thursday 5 November to Saturday 7 November we will undertake the following day works on Sunshine Road:

  • Non-destructive digging to locate underground services
  • Excavation

The following night works continue on Sunshine Road throughout October and November:

  • Drilling holes to relocate overhead electricity services underground
  • Welding and installing new pipes

What to expect

You may notice:

  • Work crews, machinery and construction vehicles (including trucks) in the area
  • Moderate levels of construction noise at times, as well as dust and vibration which will be minimised with water carts and street sweepers
  • Lighting in place to safely facilitate overnight works
  • Increase in traffic on the overnight detour route
