We are delivering stage one of Melbourne Airport Rail with an investment of more than $4 billion by the Australian and Victorian governments to build the Sunshine Superhub, untangling Melbourne's most complex rail junction outside the CBD. The new superhub will create space for a rail line to the airport and future electrification of the Melton Line.

What we're doing

In preparation for major construction works on the Sunshine Superhub, a number of major underground utilities services in the rail corridor need to be relocated. As we prepare to carry out these relocation works, our crews will be working at and near one of the project works sites, called the Sunshine Orchard Reserve, located at 300 Sunshine Road. This area will be used for the relocation works and as a site compound for worker facilities.

From Monday 12 January 2026, we will:

• Set up temporary fencing and barriers near the rail tracks to create a safe working area and to protect sensitive ecological areas.
• Construct a driveway and access road from Sunshine Road into the project site to allow for the safe entry and exit of construction vehicles.
• Clear small vegetation and grasses, including the removal of two small trees on the road reserve along Sunshine Road.
• Construct a hard surface area as the foundation for the works.
• Deliver construction equipment and machinery to the project site.
• Set up a generator powered site compound for worker facilities, including water supply connection.
• Install traffic management signage.

What to expect

• An increase in work crews, machinery and construction vehicles (including trucks) in the area.
• Mobile caravan at the Sunshine Orchard Reserve for worker facilities, including power generators.
• Temporary fencing around the work areas to ensure safety of the community and our crews.
• Medium to high levels of noise and vibration.
• We'll work Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm. We may work Saturdays, 7am to 3pm if required.

Changes to the way you travel

While we do this work safely, you will experience minor changes in the local network including:

• Speed reductions on Sunshine Road.
• Intermittent lane closures along Sunshine Road during January 2026.
• Traffic management and signage in place.
