Keeping local sports clubs thriving while we build North East Link

Major upgrades at Greensborough College are now underway.

Works have now started on a new home at Greensborough College for some of the sports clubs who need to temporarily relocate while North East Link is built.

Work to upgrade Greensborough College sports facilities will include a new pavilion, a natural turf AFL/cricket oval with a synthetic cricket pitch, a new synthetic soccer pitch, field lighting, synthetic turf cricket nets and a new car park.

The upgrades will benefit students and the new grounds will also accommodate Watsonia Heights Football Club, Macleod Junior Football Club, Macleod Cricket Club, St Marys Greensborough Junior Football Club and St Marys Football Club.

North East Link is providing funding to the Victorian School Building Authority to upgrade the Greensborough College sports facilities. The new facilities will provide a base for the Watsonia Heights Football Club, Macleod Junior Football Club, Macleod Cricket Club, St Marys Greensborough Junior Football Club and St Marys Football Club due to construction impacts at their current grounds.

FAQ

When will construction start and end?

Construction is now underway. Once works are complete in mid-2021 the oval will be available for school use as well as for new community club allocations and general community use outside of school hours.

Will I still have access to the grounds during construction and once upgrades are complete?

The grounds will not be accessible during construction. Once built, community sporting clubs will use the grounds after school hours on weekdays and on weekends. The grounds will be open for public recreation outside of school hours and when not in use by community clubs.

Will any trees be removed?

Works have been carefully planned and designed to avoid tree removal as much as possible, but a small number will be impacted. Planning for replacement planting within the school grounds is already underway.

What can I expect to see during construction?

Every effort will be made to manage the impact to residents. When work starts you will see work crews, trucks and other construction vehicles in the area. The crews will be working from 7am until 5pm weekdays along with some Saturdays if needed. For safety reasons the grounds will not be accessible during construction.
