Early design displays for North East Link are coming

North East Link will finally complete the missing link in Melbourne’s road network while modernising the Eastern Freeway.

Over the last few months we’ve been:

  • developing design ideas for the main interchanges and a new-look Eastern Freeway
  • progressing concepts for Melbourne’s first dedicated high-speed busway
  • investigating different construction types and techniques
  • planning an urban design strategy
  • starting the specialist studies needed for planning approvals next year.

Project timeline

2018

  • Design update number 1 and community feedback (we are here)
  • Design update number 2 and more community feedback
  • Your feedback will help inform how You’ll be able to get involved key areas of the project design develop

2019

  • Environment Effects Statement (EES)* on public display – you’ll be able to get involved in the planning and approvals process including by making a submission
  • Minister for Planning’s Assessment of the EES

2020

  • Construction starts

*Planning approvals for North East Link will be through an Environment Effects Statement (EES) – Victoria’s most stringent planning process. The EES will include a description of the proposed project, including how we have considered feedback from communities, together with reports on existing conditions in the project area, and the environmental outcomes to be achieved to manage impacts.
