28 June 2022

Bulleen Park & Ride will feature a massive green roof and multi-level parking for up to 370 cars.

The new station is the first part of Melbourne’s first dedicated busway – which will allow buses to travel uninterrupted up to 100km/h along the Eastern Freeway, cutting commute times for the 18,000 passengers that use Eastern Freeway services each weekday.

It’s part of North East Link – which will fix the missing link in Melbourne’s freeway network, take 15,000 trucks off local roads and reduce travel times by up to 35 minutes.

Work will continue over the coming months to complete the major works. We will also be working on Thompsons Road to make space for buses to enter and exit Bulleen Park & Ride.

Bulleen Park & Ride will open by the end of 2022 – 4 years ahead of schedule.

To date, crews have:

  • removed more than 34,000m3 – or 13 Olympic swimming pools – of dirt
  • installed 677 concrete piles to support the building structure
  • progressed more than halfway through pouring the concrete slab for the basement car park
  • commenced installing the panels for the car park walls.

Retaining wall works along Thompsons Road

From mid June to mid August, works will take place on Thompsons Road and the service road to realign the retaining wall between Sandra Street and Barak Street.

This section of the service road will be closed during this time, and we are in contact with residents regarding access to properties.

Thompsons Road works

During September, works will take place along Thompsons Road including:

  • realigning the bus lane barrier
  • replacing old stormwater pipes
  • installing additional lighting and a new bus shelter
  • widening the footpath between Kampman Street and the freeway on-ramp.

Intersection work

During September, new traffic lights at the entrance of Bulleen Park & Ride at Thompsons Road will be installed to allow buses to enter and exit safely.

Construction at the site

Over the coming weeks, we will be setting up a crane at the top of Kampman Street to assist with loading and installing concrete panels for the car park structure.
