We’re upgrading Doncaster Park and Ride and connecting it to Melbourne’s first dedicated busway to reduce travel times and improve public transport in Melbourne’s east.

To create safe entry and exit points and stop cars driving through the bus platform area, we’re making some changes to how cars and buses will use the new-look Doncaster Park and Ride. These changes will also help ease congestion at the High Street and Doncaster Road lights.

To keep park and ride traffic off surrounding streets, there will be changes to local road access at the corner of Hender Street and Finlayson Street.

Car park exit and Drop and Go zone on Hender Street

New traffic lights on Doncaster Road and one-way access at the corner of Finlayson Street will keep park and ride traffic off local streets nearby.

Cars exiting the car park or using the Drop and Go zone will use the new lights at Doncaster Road.

Separating park and ride traffic out over the High Street lights and new Hender Street lights will also ease pressure on the High Street lights and improve traffic flow on Doncaster Road.

In response to community feedback, the Drop and Go zone was simplified for improved traffic flow and pedestrian safety.

Trip and travel time changes

We've looked closely at how traffic moves about the local area.

For residents who will need to change how they get to Doncaster Road, the extra travel distance to use Harcourt Street or Pettys Lane instead of Hender Street, is expected to add up to 80 seconds to an average car trip.

The extra 80 seconds is based on a trip starting near McLeod Street or Gray Street. For residents near Ruda Street, the extra travel time will be closer to 30 seconds.

The small number of local trips that will switch to using Harcourt Street or Pettys Lane to get to Doncaster Road is not enough to cause congestion.
