Tree planting at Binnak Park, Watsonia North as new sports upgrades take shape

We’re getting ready to plant more than 40 trees at Binnak Park, as sports upgrade works progress.

While some trees needed to be removed to build the new sports facilities including the pavilion, field lighting and cricket practice nets, we've developed a landscape plan to green the area as we near the end of construction. We’ll plant a variety of species including blackwood, yellow gum, red stringybark and candlebark trees towards the middle of this year.

Works on the new pavilion are continuing with structural beams now in place and roofing, internal fittings and windows to follow soon after. New cricket practice nets are nearly finished with synthetic turf cricket pitches to be laid soon.

Natural turf has also been installed on the new AFL/cricket oval following the completion of drainage and irrigation works.

Plenty Valley Cricket Club and Watsonia Sporting Club will join the park’s existing user, Parade St Damians Junior Football Club, after the upgrades are complete.

Binnak Park is being upgraded as part of the $68 million investment to keep local sports thriving while we build North East Link.
