Bulleen Park Sports Upgrade is part of North East Link’s more than $100 million sports and recreation program to deliver game-changing community benefits that will keep local clubs playing and thriving during construction and beyond.

There’s plenty to celebrate on site at Bulleen Park, with all three sports ovals, cricket nets, a new playground and two new pavilions reaching another major milestone in their build.

Pavilion works

Both pavilions are now watertight, keeping them protected from the weather and secure. The roofs and solar panels are complete, windows are installed, and door frames are in place, giving us a clearer picture of how the finished pavilions will look.

Work has now commenced on finishing the outside of the pavilions and bringing the internal spaces and facilities together.

Oval works

All three sporting ovals at Bulleen Park are progressing.

The cricket nets next to oval 3 are complete and the natural turf on oval 3 is now dormant as it adjusts to the current weather conditions and establishes roots before the temperatures rises.

On oval 1 and 2, we've continued to undertake earthworks and started installing irrigation main lines. Concrete is also being poured around the outside of the oval 2 for the installation of the new light towers.

Environmental and safety measures

We carefully manage our works in line with the project’s strict environmental performance requirements including:

• monitoring noise and dust levels to ensure compliance with regulations
• speed restrictions for vehicles
• implementing environmental controls
• using traffic management to safely guide drivers, cyclists and pedestrians through the area.

Eastern Freeway Upgrades

We continue to hit major milestones and have:

• opened Thompsons Road into its permanent alignment
• finished installing over 180 beams that will form the elevated ramps that will connect the upgraded Eastern Freeway to the North East Link tunnels
• continued to build new noise walls along the Eastern Freeway
• finished concrete pours on all 6 levels of the upgraded Doncaster Park & Ride car park.

As part of these activities, occasional closures of the Eastern Freeway will be required. Stay up to date with disruptions.

North East Link tunnels

In Bulleen, great progress is being made on the Yarra Link green bridge and tunnel entrance. Over the coming months, you will continue to see these structures take shape as you travel along Bulleen Road.

Further north, works are continuing on the Manningham Road interchange entry and exit ramps, as well as construction of the Motorway Control Centre with the glass panels now being installed. In July, tunnel excavation between Watsonia and Bulleen was comleted, marking a major milestone for North East Link. Crews will now shift focus to the next stage of works, with fit-out and finishing works ramping up in the tunnels.
