Bulleen Park Sports Upgrade is part of North East Link’s more than $100 million sports and recreation program to deliver game-changing community benefits that will keep local clubs playing and thriving during construction and beyond.

Since late January, crews began setting up the site in March and completed the temporary carpark in April. The designs are continuing to be refined with park users and are now in their final stages.

Temporary car park now open

The temporary car park at the western end of the ovals is now open with 151 car spaces, enabling visitors to use the park during construction. With the temporary car park open, we have gradually closed existing car spaces for upgrade works.

Changes on Bulleen Park Access Road

Works have commenced on the temporary road diversion on Bulleen Park Access Road with temporary fencing and traffic separation barriers installed.

Traffic management is in place to assist with wayfinding to the existing carpark and temporary carpark.

As part of these works, a temporary pedestrian pathway is being built on Bulleen Park Access Road for pedestrians to safely move from the southern side of the temporary car park to the ovals and pavilion. Pedestrian access is also available from the northern end of the temporary carpark.

Once these works are complete, traffic will be switched onto the new temporary access. During this time, the project team will install temporary fencing to prepare for upgrading the first new oval and pavilion starting from Monday 26 May.

Access to the existing pavilion and ovals will be maintained while we start redeveloping the soccer pitches into a third oval

Site set-up June 2025 to June 2026 (indicative)

Access to Bulleen Park

Bulleen Park access road will have left-in and left out movements, and a right turn available at the new signalised intersection at Veneto Club for road users needing to head south after exiting Bulleen Park.

North East Link tunnels

There will be changes to Bulleen Park access from May to July. To create the space needed to build the Yarra Link green bridge and connect the tunnels to the Eastern Freeway, we’ve built additional lanes and a signalised intersection on Bulleen Road.

Bulleen Road southbound traffic will use the Marcellin College and Manningham Hotel & Club access road temporarily from May to July.

Between May and July there will be lane closures on Bulleen Road at times. In mid-July, there will be further disruptions on Bulleen Road as we build the remaining permanent Bulleen Road lanes.

Opening new lanes on Bulleen Road

As part of these works, the section of Bulleen Road south of the Bulleen Park access road will be straightened to line up with the Bulleen Road bridge which connects to the Eastern Freeway. Following this, traffic lights will be reinstated at the entrance of Bulleen Park.

Once complete, there will be raised lanes to allow for the continued construction of the Eastern Freeway interchange ramps.

More information on these works will be shared with the community closer to the commencement of these works.

Traffic management will be in place to guide road users through the area. Please observe on road signage, plan your travel, and allow additional time. Visit bigbuild.vic.gov.au for the latest information.

Environmental and safety measures

To set up the new work area, some tree and vegetation removal will be required. We carefully manage our works in line with the project’s strict environmental performance requirements including:

  • monitoring noise and dust levels to ensure compliance with regulations
  • speed restrictions for vehicles
  • implementing environmental controls
  • using traffic management to safely guide drivers, cyclists and pedestrians through the area.
