1 April 2025

We’re working on both sides of Bulleen Road as tunnelling continues on North East Link.

What we'll be doing

Activities to support tunnelling works will take place 24 hours a day, seven days a week. During this time, we’ll aim to minimise noise and light impacts away from your property as much as possible.

Managing construction impacts

Throughout our works, you may experience noise, light, dust, and vibration. We manage these impacts through real-time monitoring, water carts and street sweepers, targeted lighting, and reducing noise and vibration within the construction zone.

You may notice workers on local streets capturing photos as part of our ongoing management of these impacts.

We do this in conjunction with our modelling to ensure we have an accurate understanding of how these impacts may be felt in different areas. We will notify you before capturing any photos that include your property and we are happy to provide these photos upon request.

You may also see workers machinery in place, in and around construction areas, workers completing surveys in local streets and an increase of trucks removing dirt from our worksites.

To stay safe, please follow all instructions from signage and traffic controllers. We appreciate your patience and understanding throughout these works.

Eastern Freeway Upgrades

We’re continuing to install critical drainage and lay down new pavement along the Eastern Freeway. From now until June, we’re working on the citybound lanes between Burke and Bulleen Roads, where traffic is split around our worksite as we prepare new lanes for travel later this year.

From early May, a new signalised pedestrian crossing with traffic lights will be installed at the intersection of Thompsons and Bulleen roads to help pedestrians move safely around our worksites near Bulleen Road. Please check for new signals and give way to pedestrians at this crossing.

At Doncaster Road interchange, we'll move traffic onto temporary ramps to keep people moving through the area while we build the new Doncaster Road bridge. In mid-May, traffic will move onto the temporary citybound entry ramp followed by the Ringwood bound exit ramp later in the month. Allow for additional travel time when moving through the area.

Bulleen Park Sports Upgrade Works

In March, we commenced site establishment works at Bulleen Park starting with works on the temporary car par at the western end of the ovals. This will provide 151 car spaces available during construction from early 2025.

As upgrade works progress, temporary fences will be set up and pathways with clear signage installed to guide park users through the area.

During these upgrade works, one pavilion and two ovals will be maintained at all times.

Find out more about the upgrades please visit our Bulleen Park Sports Upgrade page.

Track our TBMs

Our TBMs are powering ahead, excavating the North East Link Tunnels from Watsonia to Bulleen. Both TBMs will take planned breaks throughout their journey from Watsonia to Bulleen to undertake regular maintenance. You can track their progress Tunnel boring machines tracker.

Keeping in touch

We’ll be out talking to nearby residents and businesses about these works in more detail, including how we’ll be managing any local impacts. If you have any questions now, please contact the NELP 24/7 Contact Centre on 1800 105 105.

Changes to traffic conditions in Bulleen

In April, there will be changes to traffic conditions at the Manningham Road and Bulleen Road intersection as we prepare to move Manningham Road further north to allow for the continued construction of the future Manningham Road interchange.

What you need to know:

  • From 8pm Friday 4 April to 6am Saturday 12 April 2025, the northbound lane on Bulleen Road between Manningham Road and Bridge Street will be closed. There will also be a single lane closure on Manningham Road heading towards Heidelberg.
  • From 8pm Saturday 12 April to 7am Sunday 13 April 2025, we’ll also close the intersection of Bulleen and Manningham Road to install new traffic signals.

Traffic management and detours will be in place to safely guide traffic through the area. Access to properties and businesses will be maintained.

We’re working hard to minimise disruptions to the local community and drivers can expect delays of up to 10 minutes during these works.

Dates are subject to change. We encourage you to stay up to date with traffic conditions and available detours via the

VicRoads website or the North East Link website.

Schedule is subject to change. Visit our works webpage for schedule changes.
