1 May 2026
We’re connecting the M80 Ring Road to the new North East Link tunnels, taking 15,000 trucks a day off local roads and reducing travel times by up to 35 minutes.
What you need to know
Construction activity will ramp up over the coming weeks, marking several important milestones on the M80 Ring Road Completion Project.
Upgrades to Plenty Road, designed to improve access to and from the M80 Ring Road, are about to begin. These works will require intermittent overnight and weekend closures of the M80 Ring Road entry and exit ramps while crews complete key construction activities.
From early May, traffic will be shifted onto newly constructed outer lanes along the Greensborough Bypass. This traffic switch will enable works to begin on a wider bridge over Kempston Street, along with essential utility relocations in the area.
Further works will take place along Greensborough Highway in May, with overnight closures scheduled between Watsonia Road and Grimshaw Street.
These closures are required to install the new Nell Street walking and cycling bridge and remove the existing bridge.
In Watsonia, a major project milestone is approaching, with the first stage of the new Elder Street landscaped bridge expected to start in the coming weeks. As part of this stage, traffic will move onto new southbound lanes, and use the new Watsonia Road landscaped bridge for the first time.
To maintain access to and from Elder Street and Watsonia Road while bridge works are underway, a signalised U‑turn will operate on Greensborough Highway north of Elder Street. This arrangement will remain in place until late 2026.
Alongside these works, installation of permanent noise walls will continue between the M80 Ring Road and Watsonia, providing improved protection from traffic and construction noise for nearby homes.
