We're reimagining the Valda Wetlands by rebuilding and revitalising parklands, wetlands and waterways. We’ll close the freeway between Doncaster and Tram roads for a weekend in early September to install a new Heyington Bridge for improved walking and cycling connections over the Eastern Freeway.
What we're doing
From July to September, we'll:
- build new sewer shafts before relocating existing sewer mains
- continue earthworks to shape the new wetlands
- build concrete foundations for new noise walls during the day
- install protective archways for the realigned Koonung Creek
- deliver and assemble steel beams at night to form the new bridge structure
- install bridge structures and ramps
- install supporting structures and segments of the new bridge
- mobilise a 600-tonne crane and perform a test lift of the new bridge
- build concrete foundations in Stanton Street Reserve and install structures for the new bridge
- complete concrete works for the bridge foundations in Stanton Street Reserve
- close the freeway for a weekend in September to demolish the existing bridge and install the new bridge.
When we'll work
Day works: 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 7am to 3pm Saturdays
Night works: 7pm to 6am from Monday to Friday
What to expect
- Construction vehicles, machinery and workers in the area
- Medium levels of noise, dust and vibration from machinery and equipment.
Managing impacts
