1 April 2025
We’re completing the M80 Ring Road in Greensborough including a seamless connection to the North East Link tunnels.
Major construction is continuing with new road and pedestrian bridges taking shape at the M80 Ring Road interchange, at Yando Street and Nell Street in Greensborough, and at Watsonia.
Permanent noise walls are being installed early where possible to reduce construction and road noise.
New construction compounds will be built at the M80 Interchange, Boyd Street and Watsonia Road landscaped bridge to provide facilities for workers.
What you need to know
M80 Ring Road and interchange precinct
In April, Greensborough-bound traffic will be shifted south onto temporary lanes to create space to continue constructing the interchange, roads and bridges.
Night-time lane and road closures will be in place to set up new traffic arrangements.
In mid May, the M80 entry ramp towards Greensborough will be closed at Plenty Road for a weekend with detours in place.
Ongoing Yando Street underpass bridge deck works will enable traffic to shift west onto the new M80 Ring Road Altona-bound lanes by late 2025.
We’re constructing road and shared use path bridges on Greensborough Bypass at Yando Street and Kempston Street.
Grimshaw Street and Greensborough Road area
We're currently relocating utility services in Greensborough ahead of major works at the Grimshaw Street intersection in late 2025 and early 2026.
Greensborough Highway and Grimshaw Street interchange precinct
Work on the rail tunnel under Greensborough Highway progressed during the recent Hurstbridge Line closure. More planned rail disruptions will occur later this year. Pedestrian detours are in place on Nell Street West and
Greensborough Road while we continue to build the new walking and cycling bridge over Greensborough Highway.
Watsonia Precinct
The Watsonia Road landscaped bridge and retaining walls for the new express lanes connecting to the North East Link tunnels are progressing as planned.
The relocation of the Elder Street intersection at Greensborough Highway towards the former Watsonia Station car park is complete. Next, we'll start building the structures on the western side of Greensborough Highway that will connect the M80 Ring Road to North East Link tunnels and install a permanent noise wall near Elder Street.
