1 March 2026
We’re completing the M80 Ring Road, delivering new lanes through to Plenty Road and a seamless connection to the North East Link tunnels – taking 19,000 cars and trucks a day off Greensborough Road and giving local roads back to local people.
What you need to know
We’re continuing to build the foundations for the Elder Street landscaped bridge and completing the new permanent Greensborough Road northbound and southbound lanes.
Between April and mid-May, we’ll commence construction of the Elder Street landscaped bridge, temporarily closing Elder Street between Greensborough Highway and Frensham Road, working 24/7 to get the job done.
To complete the new Nell Street walking and cycling bridge, we'll need to close a section of Greensborough Highway overnight at times between Grimshaw Street and Elder Street. This will allow us to demolish the existing bridge and install the new overpass.
In early May, traffic will move onto the outer lanes of the Greensborough Bypass so we can start building the new bridge over Kempston Street. Kempston Street will be closed for six weeks while we demolish the existing Greensborough Bypass bridge over Kempston Street and build a new one that meets modern standards.
We’ll also open a new pedestrian underpass connecting to the east side of Grimshaw Street via Hamlet Street, improving access for the community. We’ve started building the ramps for the new Macorna Street walking and cycling bridge, which we’ll install later this year.
In March, we’ll lift in the new bridge beams as a key step in upgrading the Yando Street underpass, installing them over the eastern side and across the Greensborough Bypass Trail.
We are commencing early works on Plenty Road to improve connections to the entry and exit ramps of the M80 Ring Road. Work is also progressing behind barriers on the M80 Ring Road Interchange and lanes to Plenty Road.
