Major construction on the South Geelong to Waurn Ponds Duplication is complete. The project has removed two dangerous and congested level crossings and delivered better stations for passengers on Victoria’s busiest regional rail line.
Major construction is complete on the project, with minor works to continue over coming months. During the winter construction blitz we removed two level crossings at Fyans Street and Surf Coast Highway, duplicated more than 8 kilometres of track and made significant upgrades to Marshall and South Geelong stations. Trains resumed services on the line on 26 August, with South Geelong and Marshall stations now open to passengers.
What we are doing
We are completing works on the upgrades at Marshall Station and surrounding area.
Works will include:
- pavement works as well as line marking and signage
- finishing works in the forecourt area
- completion and commissioning of the lifts
- pavement, line marking and kerb construction at the Marshall Station bus loop intersection
- landscaping, including hydroseeding and tree planting
- construction of the walking and cycling path
- installation of street lighting
- footpath works along Drews Road
- works on pedestrian footpath and car park
- asphalting pavement works at Station Road.
Works will take place Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm. Occasionally we may need to work Saturdays between the hours of 7am and 3pm, and night works between the hours of 7pm and 6am. If Saturday or night works are required, impacted residents will be notified in advance.
Works will continue throughout September, with most works complete in late-September.
What to be aware of
There will be regular vehicle movements and workers continuing work in the Marshall Station area.
Localised traffic management will be in place for community and worker safety.
We thank the Geelong community for your patience while we complete the remainder of the works.
How we’re minimising impacts
Dust
We use a range of measures to minimise dust from construction activities, such as the use of water carts to wet down work areas and suppress dust. We will also have regular street sweepers and water carts cleaning roads
Noise and vibration
We regularly monitor noise and vibration levels to make sure they are within the Environment Protection Authority noise control guidelines and aim to limit out-of-hours works where possible.
Lighting
Where possible, portable light towers will be positioned away from residential properties with measures in place to prevent light spill into homes and private areas.
