As we build a train stabling facility in Heatherton, we are also improving Kingston Walk Linear Reserve and Henry Street Linear Reserve, and delivering a new shared user path on the northern side of Kingston Road.

The train stabling facility will allow Suburban Rail Loop's (SRL) fleet of high-tech trains to begin services efficiently each day and provide a turn-up-and-go network for passengers.

Trains will be parked at the train stabling facility when they are not in operation. While they are at the facility they will be cleaned, maintained and prepared for the next day.

An urban design and landscape plan is required for the train stabling facility.

The plan shows the proposed landscaping and design for:

• The SRL East train stabling facility including the rail line, and eastern and western tunnel entrances
• Kingston Walk Linear Reserve enhancements
• Henry Street Linear Reserve enhancements
• A new shared user path and landscaping on the northern side of Kingston Road next to the train stabling facility.

As part of the design, we will plant more than 1,000 trees and over 121,000sqm of new vegetation. This will soften the visual presence of the train stabling facility and ensure buildings are carefully integrated with landscaping.

Additionally, we are looking at additional opportunities to create open space around the train stabling facility. We will keep the community updated on these plans as designs progress.

Community and stakeholders can provide their feedback on the plans until 11:59pm Friday 23 October 2026.

Feedback will inform the final train stabling facility urban design and landscape plan which will be provided to the Minister for Planning for assessment.

Proposed SRL East train stabling facility design and landscaping

Train stabling facility

Several buildings are required within the train stabling facility to support operation of the SRL East network.

The train stabling facility has been designed with a strong focus on thoughtful and quality landscaping and greenery. Buildings are designed to integrate with surrounding plants and vegetation. The eastern and western tunnel entrances will include a metal curved screen to cover operational equipment, and have been designed in keeping with the movement of trains in and out of the tunnels.

Kingston Road

A new shared user path and landscaping will be built on the northern side of Kingston Road, next to the train stabling facility.

The path will improve connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists to the enhanced linear reserves, Henry Street playground and Kingston Road bus stops.

Linear reserves

We are enhancing Kingston Walk Linear Reserve and Henry Street Linear Reserve, to ensure the community can continue to enjoy these reserves during construction and operation of the SRL East network.

Proposed enhancements include:

• Improved and widened shared user paths
• Planting new trees
• Park furniture and rest spots along the linear reserves.

The existing fence through the middle of Kingston Walk Linear Reserve and adjoining gates will be removed. This will improve access to the reserve for the community.

These enhancements will provide better connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists, soften the visual presence of the train stabling facility, and improve biodiversity, habitat and greenery.
