1 November 2023 to 1 January 2024
Works are continuing in Box Hill to deliver SRL East for Melbourne and Victoria.
We’re relocating utilities and completing kerb and pavement works. This is required to make way for major construction for SRL East. These works will be carried out from Wednesday 1 November for approximately eight weeks. These works will be undertaken during both day-time and night-time working hours.
Note: Due to wet weather and emergency works, buses will continue to replace trams until 31 October between Union Road, Surrey Hills, and Box Hill Central. Download our most recent works notice (PDF 234.6KB).

Noise impacts
As with all major infrastructure projects, surrounding communities may experience some impacts during construction.
The project will support businesses and residents to ensure people can continue to live, work, study and shop in their local community.
Please contact us on 1800 105 105 to discuss support available if you are impacted by our works.
How we will manage our works
We will minimise impacts to the community by:
- Where possible, keeping Whitehorse Road open in both directions on Friday and Saturday nights
- Maintaining pedestrian access during business hours
- Using noise blankets on machinery and fencing where possible
- Turning off equipment when not in use
- Applying water during cutting and drilling if required.
- Demolition of remaining structures
- Ongoing excavations
- Installation of tram facilities
- Access changes to the new 109 tram terminus
- 24-hour works will be required within the work site at times.
Traffic changes
Traffic changes are needed to complete these works. Vehicle and pedestrian access to homes and businesses will be maintained at all times with help from traffic controllers when required. Please see the table and map below for details of traffic changes in the area.
