Works are continuing in Box Hill to deliver SRL East for Melbourne and Victoria.
We're relocating the existing 109 tram terminus, continuing utility relocations and installing traffic signage on local roads to prepare for SRL East station in Box Hill.
The existing tram terminus will be relocated 40m west of its current location, allowing the tram to continue operating during the construction of SRL East. These works will include laying new track, completing the new platform and installing public lighting.
Works will be undertaken from 25 September to 31 October during both day-time and night-time working hours. There will be continuous 24-hour works from 2 to 27 October. These 24-hour works are required to minimise disruption to the tram service.
Traffic and pedestrian changes are required on Whitehorse Road and Station Street during these works. The pedestrian crossing at Market Street will be closed for most of this time. Pedestrians will be detoured via Station Street.
Buses will replace trams between Union Road, Surrey Hills, and Box Hill Central from Monday 2 October to Friday 27 October.
Day-time working hours

Night-time working hours

Noise impacts
As with all major infrastructure projects, surrounding communities may experience some impacts during construction.
The project will support businesses and residents to ensure people can continue to live, work, study and shop in their local community.
Please contact us on 1800 105 105 to discuss support available if you are impacted by our works.
How we will manage our work
We will minimise impacts to the community by:
- Where possible, keeping Whitehorse Road open in both directions on Friday and Saturday nights
- Maintaining pedestrian access during business hours
- Using noise blankets on machinery and fencing where possible
- Turning off equipment when not in use
- Applying water during cutting and drilling if required.
Traffic Changes
Traffic changes are needed to complete these works. Vehicle and pedestrian access to homes and businesses will be maintained at all times with help from traffic controllers when required.
