Works are underway in Heatherton to deliver Suburban Rail Loop East for Melbourne and Victoria.

These works include site investigations, relocation of underground services, earthworks, safe removal of hazardous materials, and construction of a tunnel access structure. Works will be primarily undertaken during extended day-time working hours (with approvals in place). All timings are weather permitting.

Work locations

217 Kingston Road

From February:

• Earthworks and excavation for up to 12 months
• Ongoing safe removal of hazardous material
• Ongoing construction of the tunnel access structure
• Connecting underground services to the site
• Demolishing existing buildings and structures.

91-185 Kingston Road

From early February to early March 2024:

• Site investigations to locate underground services and assess ground conditions
• Earthworks to allow for safe access and work areas on site.

171-175 and 172-176 Old Dandenong Road

From early February to late April 2024:

• Installation of temporary fencing
• Removal of trees and vegetation
• Safe removal of hazardous material
• Demolishing existing buildings and structures
• Earthworks
• Reinstating fencing where required.

Old Dandenong Road

Ongoing until mid March:

• Site investigations to locate underground services and assess ground conditions
• Some overnight works may be required for 2 nights to remove traffic barriers.

Daytime working hours

• 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday
• 6am to 1pm, Saturday

Night-time working hours

• 6pm to 6am, Monday to Sunday (if required)

How we will manage our works

We will minimise impacts to the community by:

• Positioning equipment away from residents and businesses
• Undertaking works that may impact traffic during off-peak times as much as possible
• Using water carts onsite to minimise dust
• Using machinery and equipment that minimises noise as much as possible
• If noisy works are required we will provide respite and apply noise reducing measures.

Noise impacts

As with all major infrastructure projects, surrounding communities may experience some impacts during construction.
