Works are underway in Heatherton to deliver Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East for Melbourne and Victoria.

Works are continuing at Heatherton including site investigations, safe removal of hazardous materials, and construction of a tunnel access structure. Day-time working hours have been extended to facilitate these works (approvals in place). All timings are weather permitting.

Old Dandenong Road

Mid January for up to 2 months

• Ongoing site investigations to locate underground services and assess ground conditions
• Installation of traffic barriers to create a safe working area
• Relocation of underground cables and traffic signals
• Removal of traffic barriers once works are complete
• Works will occur during day-time working hours.

217 Kingston Road

Mid January to mid 2025

Works will be undertaken to construct a tunnel access structure, which is a large, ramp-shaped structure that will provide access for tunnel boring machines to construct the underground twin tunnels.

• Drilling into the ground and reinforcing with steel
• Installation of concrete wall panels to support the ground to allow for excavation of the tunnel access structure
• Works will occur during day-time working hours, with some night works to enable delivery of machinery to site.

Day time working hours

• 6am to 6pm, Monday to Friday
• 6pm to 3pm, Saturday

Night time working hours

• 6pm to 6am, Monday to Sunday

How we will manage our works

We will be using equipment that generates medium levels of noise, dust and vibration. We will minimise impacts to the community by:

• Positioning equipment as far as possible from residents and businesses
• Turning equipment off when not in use
• Using water carts onsite to minimise dust.

Noise impacts

As with all major infrastructure projects, surrounding communities may experience some impacts during construction.
