25 September 2024
From 1 October 2024, Old Dandenong Road will be permanently closed between Henry Street and Kingston Road.
What we are doing
Old Dandenong Road will be permanently closed from 1 October 2024, between Kingston Road and Henry Street. The closure will be implemented after the morning peak on Tuesday, 1 October. Local directional signage and traffic signals will be updated to reflect the closure of Old Dandenong Road.
Why is this necessary?
The section of Old Dandenong Road between Kingston Road and Henry Street will form part of the future Suburban Rail Loop (SRL) East Stabling Facility. Once SRL East is complete, the Stabling Facility will be used to park and maintain trains while they are not operating on the railway line. This is a critical part of the SRL East network to allow the fleet of high-tech trains to begin services efficiently each day.
How can I access local shops and services?
Motorists can access businesses and services on Kingston Road and Old Dandenong Road via Dingley Bypass or Warrigal Road. The new travel route via Dingley Bypass will add between 1 and 3 minutes to your journey, depending on traffic volumes. Please see the map below for more information.
Disruptions
In addition to the permanent closure of Old Dandenong Road, SRL East works will cause temporary traffic changes to Kingston Road in the coming months due to moving underground services and road modifications. Please follow the signs, and thank you for your patience while we undertake these critical works.

- Kingston Heath Golf Club
