Wurundjeri Way and Dudley Street– intersection closure

Bridge and ramp construction – Wurundjeri Way and Dudley Street, Docklands

The West Gate Tunnel Project need to undertake important works to install steel beams over the intersection of Wurundjeri Way and Dudley Street that will support the new elevated bridge.

When we’ll be working

From Sunday 8 October to Saturday 2 December 2023.

What we'll be doing

From 8pm Sunday 8 October to 7am Saturday 2 December 2023 there is due to be a continuous closure of the Wurundjeri Way and Dudley Street intersection including the footpath, and Wurundjeri Way between Dudley Street and Bourke Street.

Additional works and impacts

Dudley Street –Pedestrian Footpath

The pedestrian footpath along Dudley Street, between Footscray Road and Adderley Street will also be closed continuously from Sunday 8 October to Saturday 2 December 2023 to safely carry out bridge construction work. There will be detours and signage in place during these closures.

Footscray Road

There is due to be a closure of Footscray Road in both directions in the days leading up to the Wurundjeri Way/Dudley Street intersection closure, then a single lane arrangement 24/7 during the same time as the intersection closure, to complete other work along Footscray Road between the Maribyrnong River and Pearl River Road.

Noise

You may notice minor construction noise, including intermittent noise, at night. If works are expected to create extra noise, the West Gate Tunnel Project team will be in contact with residents directly.

Scope of works

• Steel beams installation and associated super structure works.
• Traffic signalling infrastructure between south of Dudley St and carpark D
• Pavement construction on north and southbound between Bourke St & Carpark D & E.
• Civil and kerb works.

Changes to the way you travel

While this closure is happening, the modelling suggests that there will be a large reduction in traffic volumes on Footscray Road. Our recommended detour options are stated below as well as any additional travel-time impacts:

Via Dynon Road/Spencer Street (inbound)

• AM peak + 11 minutes.
• PM peak + 13 minutes.

Via Dynon Road/Spencer Street (outbound)

• AM peak + 2 minutes.
• PM peak + 5 minutes.
