Upcoming disruptions

West Gate Tunnel Project works along Footscray Road are progressing well, with the asphalting applied to eastbound and westbound carriageways and the next phase of utility, drainage and resurfacing works set to continue in December and into 2025.

Lane and full road closures of Footscray Road, the service road on Footscray Road and Dock Link Road will be required  so we can safely carry out the works. Once completed, these works will create a smoother and safer journey for motorists and ensure better connections to Melbourne’s road network

Ongoing to 20 December 2024

Works and impacts Footscray Road, westbound carriageway closure

The westbound carriageway of Footscray Road, between Dock Link Road and Shepherd Bridge, will be closed overnight to enable cladding works from:

• Ongoing to Friday 29 November 2024, 8pm to 5am
• Monday 2 December to Thursday 19 December, 8pm to 5am.

Footscray Road, full closure in both directions

There will be full closure of Footscray Road in both directions, between Maribyrnong Street and Appleton Dock Road, to enable road resurfacing works from:

• 8pm Friday 6 December to 5am Monday 9 December.

There will be full closures of Footscray Road in both directions, between CityLink inbound entry ramp and Waterfront Way, to enable a traffic switch from:

• 8pm Saturday 7 December to 5am Sunday 8 December.

Footscray Road, single lane closures

There will be ongoing single lane closures until 20 December 2024 on Footscray Road, westbound between Waterfront Way and CityLink, and eastbound between CityLink and Pearl River Road.

Footscray Road, service road closures

The left turn from the service road on Footscray Road into Dock Link Road and through access to the service road will be closed to enable utility and median island works from:

• 9pm Wednesday 20 November to 5am 19 December.

Changes to the way you travel

Light vehicle motorists will be able to detour around Footscray Road via Whitehall Street, Dynon Road, Spencer Street and Dudley Street.

Heavy vehicles have different route requirements, and heavy vehicle motorists should contact us for more information about detours.

During this time, businesses on Footscray Road will continue to operate, with access maintained, and there will be an increase of vehicles on Dynon Road.

Traffic management will be in place, including signage to guide traffic through the area.

Information for cyclists

During these works, the cycling path along Footscray Road will be intermittently diverted onto the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail and Dynon Road. The following closures will also be in place in December:

• 9pm Wednesday 20 November to 5am 19 December.

Footscray Road, walking and cycling path closures

The Footscray Road walking and cycling path between Pearl River Road and Shepherd Bridge will be closed 24/7 from:

• 8pm Friday 6 December to 5am Monday 9 December 2024
• 8pm Friday 13 December to 5am Monday 16 December 2024.

Noise

You may notice construction noise, including intermittent noise at night. Depending on the type of works and if works are expected to create extra noise, the West Gate Tunnel Project team will be in contact with residents and businesses directly.
