Boronia Station closes for upgrade works

Major works on the Boronia Station Upgrade are well underway, with the project set to improve accessibility across the precinct and deliver a new landscaped community plaza.

Crews have cleared the area for the new plaza, which will connect the station forecourt on Lupton Way with Dorset Road, and are continuing to install retaining walls and undertake drainage works, with Lupton Way temporarily closed to enable these works.

Works are also underway on the foundations of the new ticket office and protective services officer building, including installing steel for the walls and roofs.

To safely progress station upgrade works, Boronia Station will close from 11.30pm Friday 8 May until spring, while crews widen the station concourse, build new platform shelters and upgrade seating and lighting.

During this time, trains will not stop at Boronia Station, with shuttle buses operating between Bayswater, Boronia and Ferntree Gully stations to connect passengers to train services.

From Friday 8 May, some bus stops in the Boronia Station bus interchange will be relocated to the station car park north of Chandler Road, which will remain closed until later this year. Passenger parking is available at Erica Avenue, Chandler Road and in the multi-deck car park.

When completed in spring, the modern new station forecourt will feature a striking canopy inspired by flora from the nearby Dandenong Ranges, and an expanded concourse to improve connections over the rail line.

A new pocket park near the Boronia Junction Shopping Centre will include garden beds, trees, seating and a nature play area, creating a welcoming green space for the community.

The upgrade will also add more greenery across the precinct, with more than 50 new trees and about 3000 plants and shrubs to be planted across the station area, Boronia Station Reserve and the new plaza between Dorset Road and the station.

Accessibility will also be improved with an updated pick-up and drop-off zone on Lupton Way, upgraded footpaths to both station entrances, and more bike hoops and better connections for cyclists.
