After months of hard work, passengers in Melbourne’s east are benefitting from a safer and more accessible Boronia Station, with modern new station forecourts and more open spaces for the community to enjoy.
The station upgrade also included a new landscaped plaza, which has now opened between the station and Dorset Road, creating more green open space and seating options. This also makes it safer and easier for people to travel between the station and Boronia’s busy shopping precinct.
The upgraded station features 2 new entrances with a striking canopy design inspired by flora from the nearby Dandenong Ranges, and an expanded concourse to improve connections across the rail line.
The station precinct also includes CCTV and more lighting, and upgraded platforms with improved seating, toilets, new shelters and a new waiting room.
Access has been improved with an updated pick-up and drop-off zone on Lupton Way, and upgraded footpaths to both station entrances.
Safety for cyclists has been boosted with a new shared zone and reduced speed limit on Lupton Way, with additional bike hoops to make it easier for cyclists to access the station.
The project has added more greenery across the precinct, with more than 50 new trees and 3000 plants, shrubs and grasses across the station precinct, including a new pocket park with seating and a nature play area near the Boronia Junction Shopping Centre.
To mark the completion of the station upgrade, a community celebration will be held at Boronia Station from 10am to 1pm, Saturday 17 October.
The event will be held at Lupton Way, Boronia, featuring family-friendly activities and the chance to explore the new Boronia Station precinct.
Crews will remain in the area until mid November, when the site office will be removed.
