Celebrating the new West Tarneit Station in style

Hundreds of people turned out on the weekend to celebrate the brand-new West Tarneit Station, marking the completion of the project, which will improve access to public transport in Melbourne’s booming west.

About 500 locals attended the community event, taking the opportunity to explore the new station and enjoy food and fun family activities such as face painting, henna hand art, AFL football target practice, and children’s mini cars and construction vehicles, with live entertainment provided by a DJ, and Bollywood and Bhangra dancers.

The station is the newest on the train network since the opening of the Metro Tunnel last year.

Better connecting this growing area to Melbourne’s CBD, the new station has a 4-bay bus interchange, 400 car spaces, walking and cycling connections and secure bike storage.

More than 1100 weekly services were also added to the local Tarneit bus network in August. A new Route 186 bus now operates services between Tarneit Station and West Tarneit Station via Dohertys Road, improving connections for communities north of the station.

For residents further south, the existing Route 182 from Tarneit to Werribee Station now runs more frequently and also stops at the new West Tarneit Station.
