Work is underway on a massive 24-7 construction blitz to transform rail in Melbourne’s west by improving train services to Tarneit and on the Melton Line.
Crews at the new West Tarneit Station are working around the clock until Saturday 24 January to complete critical drilling under the rail line, construct the new platforms and install the prefabricated platform canopies.
The brand-new West Tarneit Station will include a four-bay bus interchange, a 400-space car park, and an accessible underpass that will make it easier to access both sides of the rail line when it opens later this year.
Meanwhile crews at Caroline Springs and Deer Park have started work on platform extensions as part of the Melton Line Upgrade, which will enable nine-car VLocity trains to run on the line from 2027, boosting capacity by 50% on peak services.
Signalling work is also underway near the new Cobblebank train stabling yard which will be built to house the nine-car trains.
To allow crews to continue working safely, buses have replaced trains on sections of the Ballarat and Geelong lines from Saturday 10 to Saturday 24 January.
Visit the Big Build disruptions page for details about changes to services.
In Melton, crews will continue works to build the 2 new rail bridges at Coburns and Exford roads and the new Melton Station, installing signalling, drainage and underground services.
Melton will be boom gate free, and the modern Melton Station will open later this year with four platforms to cater for one of Victoria’s fastest-growing communities.
While trains aren’t running, construction will continue for the new road bridges being built over the rail line at Ferris Road, Melton and Hopkins Road, Truganina, opening to traffic later this year, boosting safety and easing congestion on local roads.
