Crews building the new West Tarneit Station are gearing up for a 24-7 construction blitz to undertake critical signalling work on the Geelong Line.
The new station is being built to help take pressure off the existing Tarneit Station and improve access to transport in Melbourne’s booming west.
Installing new signalling on the line will help integrate West Tarneit Station into the train network and ensure trains can run safely and efficiently when it opens later this year.
Crews will also continue work on the station platforms, cycling and pedestrian pathways through the station precinct, and drainage channels, kerbs and pavement around the station precinct.
To allow crews to work safely, buses will replace trains on sections of the Geelong and Ballarat lines from Tuesday 26 May until Saturday 30 May.
The West Tarneit Station precinct will include a 4-bay bus interchange and a 400-space car park for passengers on the southern side of the rail line.
The car park and bus interchange will connect to the northern side via a new pedestrian underpass, with more than 500 bright green tiles, ramps and stairs.
Landscaping around the station will also start in the coming weeks.
The precinct will feature seating and more than 17,000 native trees, plants, shrubs and grasses, including wattles, correas, bottlebrushes and flowering gum trees when the project is completed.
