Works start on safer, more accessible Boronia Station

Major construction has started on the Boronia Station Upgrade, with the project set to improve accessibility across the precinct and deliver a new landscaped plaza on Dorset Road.

Crews have started clearing the area where a new community plaza will be built, connecting the station forecourt on Lupton Way with Dorset Road. The new plaza will create more green open space and seating, while making it safer and easier for people to travel between the station and Boronia’s busy shopping precinct.

A new signalised pedestrian crossing will also be installed on Dorset Road, providing a safer way for people to access the station and nearby shops.

With work now underway, Lupton Way will close to traffic from 27 March until late September while crews widen the station concourse, build new shelters on the platforms, and upgrade seating and lighting.

Final designs released last year revealed a modern new station forecourt featuring a striking canopy inspired by flora from the nearby Dandenong Ranges, and an expanded concourse to improve connections over the rail line.

A new pocket park near the Boronia Junction Shopping Centre will feature garden beds, trees, seating and a nature play area, creating a welcoming green space for the community.

The upgrade will also add more greenery across the precinct, with more than 50 new trees and around 3,000 plants and shrubs to be planted in the station area, Boronia Station Reserve and the new plaza between Dorset Road and the station.

Accessibility will also be improved with an updated pick-up and drop-off zone on Lupton Way, upgraded footpaths to both station entrances, and more bike hoops and better connections for cyclists.

Boronia Station Upgrade will be completed in spring this year.
