Boom gates no more at Coolstore

The Coolstore Road boom gates have been dismantled and consigned to history, marking an important milestone in works to remove the dangerous and congested level crossing and build the new Croydon Transport Hub.

Crews removed the gates in the early hours of the morning, in preparation for beams for the new rail bridge to be lifted into place over Coolstore Road.

With Coolstore Road already closed to traffic, trains will continue running until 24/7 works kick off on Friday 24 May to finish building the new rail bridge and Croydon Station, and new road connections.

In early July, a new signalised intersection will provide direct links between Wicklow Avenue, Croydon Road, Kent Avenue and Lacey Street. By spring, a new intersection at Wicklow Avenue and Devon Street will provide another way to cross the rail line, and Coolstore Road will continue into Main Street.

Buses will replace trains on sections of the Lilydale Line from Friday 24 May to early July, so allow extra time and stay up to date about road and rail disruptions when planning your journey.

The new premium Croydon Station will open to the community in late July, a year ahead of schedule, and feature 2 entrances and forecourts, elevated platforms, modern facilities and lighting, and CCTV.
