The Narre Warren Station precinct is starting to take shape with the opening of more than 200 upgraded car parking spaces making it easier than ever for locals to use public transport.

The level crossing at Webb Street, Narre Warren was removed in December last year, and the new elevated Narre Warren Station opened in March.

Since the first trains departed from the new station, construction crews have been working hard to finish the station precinct.

This includes installing additional lift access to both platforms, opening a new waiting room with toilets, and continuing work on a further 400 upgraded car parking spaces.

The car park on the eastern side of Webb Street has been completed and is now open to commuters.

In the coming months the project team will continue work on landscaping, planting 300 new trees and 63,000 plants, shrubs and grasses, put the finishing touches on pedestrian and cycling paths through the area and open secure bike parking for cyclists.

New bus shelters on Webb Street will also be installed, providing easier and safer connections to the train station.

The Webb Street level crossing was one of the most dangerous in Melbourne, with 19 near misses between 2012 and its removal in December last year.

The boom gates were down up to a third of the morning peak, causing congestion for 13,200 vehicles every day.

It was the 74th level crossing removed for good across Melbourne, with 110 in total going by 2030. This includes making the Pakenham Line level crossing free by 2025, when the Metro Tunnel opens.
