We removed the level crossing at Webb Street in December 2023, with cars, pedestrians and cyclists now travelling under the new elevated rail bridge.

The Webb Street level crossing was the 14th removed on the Pakenham Line. The Webb Street boom gates were down for up to 33% of the morning peak, causing delays for 13,200 vehicles every day.

As well as removing the dangerous level crossing, we also built a brand-new Narre Warren Station that is now open to passengers.

When complete, the new station will feature an air-conditioned waiting room or kiosk, secure bike storage, a landscaped forecourt and improved pedestrian connections to Narre Warren Village.

Removing this crossing will improve safety, reduce congestion, and allow more trains to run, more often. Along with the Metro Tunnel and removal of the level crossings at McGregor Road, Main Street and Racecourse Road, it will also create a level crossing free Pakenham Line which will change how locals live, work and travel, with faster journeys and safer roads by 2025.

We’ll continue working until mid 2024 to finalise the station precinct, including the remaining car parks, path connections and the new landscaped forecourt.
