Colourful creations at Melton Station brighten commuter journeys

Melton schools and early learning centres have come together to showcase their communities and cultures through artworks, now proudly on display at Melton Station, as part of level crossing removal works at Coburns and Exford roads.

Artworks from 11 schools and learning centres feature in the colourful initiative, with the young artists invited to draw on themes such as family, First Nations people, flora and fauna, Australian landscapes, transport and the new Melton Station.

The resulting artworks were then photographed and printed onto screens along the pedestrian and cycling path between Exford Road and the temporary Melton Station.

The display will remain in place during works to build the new rail bridges replacing the two level crossings and to build the new Melton Station, opening to passengers in 2026.

Sunflower Kids Early Learning and Childcare Educational Leader Gerlie Rodelas said the children were excited to take part in the art project.

“The children loved the experiences and shared lots of creative ideas. We are excited to be able to share our kids' art with the community,” she said.

Work is also underway to remove dangerous and congested level crossings at nearby Ferris Road, Melton, and Hopkins Road, Truganina, with both new road bridges set to open to traffic next year.
