The heart of Croydon will be turned into a transport hub, with early concept designs revealed for the Coolstore Road, Croydon level crossing removal.
The Coolstore Road level crossing will be removed by building a 687-metre-long rail bridge, with trains to travel over the road.
A brand-new Croydon Station will also be built, with 2 entrances, improved safety and access, and better facilities for passengers.
This design offers the best opportunity to connect the suburb's busy shopping precinct, currently divided by the rail line, and improve safety and congestion in Croydon’s town centre.
New road connections will also be built to make it easier to travel in both directions north and south of the rail line. This includes removing the congested roundabout at Coolstore Road.
A new bus interchange will be built south of the rail line, providing easier and safer connections to the station for passengers.
The community can provide feedback on aspects of the initial concept designs for the Coolstore Road level crossing removal and the new Croydon Station.
To check out the new designs and have your say, head to the Engage Victoria website by Sunday 4 September.
Creating a new transport hub for Croydon
The new Croydon Station will provide commuters with a modern precinct that includes elevated platforms, 2 new entrances and forecourts, upgraded parking, and safer drop-off zones on both sides of the rail tracks.
New walking and cycling paths will also be built through the precinct to improve connections for pedestrians and cyclists.
The bus interchange, home to up to 19 bus routes every day, will also be revamped with better access for buses and safer links to the station for pedestrians.
Lilydale and Belgrave Line removals pave the way for more services
