The concrete bridge structure is complete, train tracks are laid, overhead wiring has been switched on and the level crossing at Kororoit Creek Road is gone forever!
As major construction works wrap up, our teams have worked around the clock to complete the construction blitz almost a week ahead of schedule.
For these works to occur, train services were suspended on the Altona Loop with buses replacing trains for all services on the loop and some services on the Werribee Line during the night and weekends.
While train commuters were on the bus, 40 L-beams weighing more than 7000 tonnes in total were installed. These beams allow the train lines to rise over the road so the traffic can flow freely underneath – no more boom gates.
More than 750 workers have contributed their expertise to get the job done.
This project was delivered by our hard-working project team – comprising of the Level Crossing Removal Project, Metro Trains, McConnell Dowell, Mott MacDonald and Arup. Congratulations to the team for getting on with the job and working hard to get commuters back on trains sooner.
Altona Loop commuters can look forward to more reliable journeys following the completion of a duplicated section of track between the Werribee Line junction and Kororoit Creek.
The works have removed a significant bottleneck and provide a second point along the loop where trains can safely pass one another.
