Final designs for new Mordialloc Station precinct

Final designs for a boom gate free Mordialloc have been released, with additional safety and amenity features as part of the project to get rid of 3 level crossings and build a new premium station.

Early works have already started on building rail bridges to get rid of level crossings at McDonald Street, Mordialloc and Station Street, Aspendale, and to close the Bear Street crossing in Mordialloc.

The new elevated station in the heart of Mordialloc will feature modern facilities and improved accessibility, including entrances at both ends of the platforms, improved lighting, public spaces and landscaping.

The design reflects Mordialloc’s bayside location, with the bridge structures and station buildings featuring warm, natural tones, a sunken garden and landscaped open spaces planted with more than 1000 trees and 85,000 plants, shrubs and grasses, including native species to be planted exclusively along Station Street.

The existing Mordialloc Station building and the historic water tower will also remain a focal point of the lush new station precinct.

The updated final designs reflect community feedback and include a safe left turn from the new link road near Station Street onto the Nepean Highway in Aspendale, which will improve travel options and help ensure traffic flows smoothly through the intersection.

Improvements to the local road network will include upgrading the roundabout where McDonald Street meets Nepean Highway, as well as adding a new slip lane to allow traffic to merge seamlessly.

South of Mordialloc Creek, a new roundabout will keep traffic moving between Station Street and Pine Crescent, providing smooth access to the new link road connecting Station Street to Nepean Highway.

Removing the level crossings at McDonald and Station streets will deliver more reliable journeys for locals, with the boom gates currently down for a third of the morning peak.

Major works will start in the coming months and the 3 level crossings will be gone, with the new station open in 2026. This will bring the Frankston Line one step closer to being level crossing free by 2029, improving safety and easing congestion on local roads.
