We’ve removed the level crossings at Bear Street and McDonald Street, Mordialloc and Station Street, Aspendale to deliver faster and safer journey times by building new rail bridges.
As part of the project, we also built a new Mordialloc Station with a vibrant station precinct and safe access for pedestrians and cyclists.
With no level crossings in the area, journeys will be faster and more reliable and local roads will be safer.
Planned timeline
Early site investigations started in March 2023. Major construction started in mid 2025 with the Bear Street boom gates gone for good in August 2025. The level crossings at Bear Street and McDonald Street, Mordialloc and Station Street, Aspendale were removed and the new Mordialloc Station opened in May 2026.
Removing these level crossings will help create a level crossing free Frankston Line by 2032.
