Major construction is ramping up to get rid of another three dangerous bayside level crossings and build a new premium Mordialloc Station, as a 10 day works blitz gets underway.
Crews will work 24/7 to build foundations for the new rail bridges set to replace level crossings at McDonald Street, Mordialloc and Station Street, Aspendale, and demolish parts of the existing Mordialloc Station.
Signalling infrastructure and boom gates at Bear Street, Mordialloc will also be dismantled, with the road remaining permanently closed to traffic at the former level crossing to maintain access to the nearby train stabling facility and create space for the vibrant new station precinct under the rail bridge.
To safely carry out these works, buses will replace trains on sections of the Frankston Line from 8.30pm, Monday 18 August.
When trains resume on Friday 29 August, all services will arrive and depart from platform 1 at Mordialloc Station, while Frankston Line services will run to an altered timetable until mid 2026 to minimising disruption while construction continues on the elevated rail bridges and new station.
Passengers are encouraged to plan ahead by visiting the Transport Victoria website.
Mordialloc will be boom gate free and the new elevated Mordialloc Station will open in 2026, featuring modern facilities and improved accessibility, including entrances at both ends of the platforms, improved lighting, public spaces and landscaping with 86,000 trees, shrubs and grasses.
More than 26,000 vehicles travel through these 3 level crossings every day where the boom gates can be down more than 40 minutes of the morning peak. There have been 12 near misses and one fatality at these crossings since 2016.
The Frankston Line will be level crossing free by 2029 transforming the way locals live, work and travel.
Across Melbourne, we’re removing 110 dangerous and congested level crossings by 2030, with 87 already gone for good, boosting safety and easing congestion.
