Have your say on Macleod level crossing removal

Back to Newsfeed

The community in Macleod and Rosanna has been invited to have their say on the Ruthven Street, Macleod Level Crossing Removal Project.

The dangerous and congested Ruthven Street level crossing will be removed by building a rail bridge over the road, improving travel times and safety for drivers with Macleod and Rosanna boom gate free in 2027.

Technical and engineering assessments determined a rail bridge was the best way to remove the level crossing as it reduces the construction period, creates new space for landscaping and requires no acquisition of homes or businesses.

Removing the level crossing will eliminate almost half an hour of boom gate down time in the morning peak, saving travel time for 12,600 drivers each weekday.

It will improve safety and create more reliable travel times for drivers, pedestrians and bike riders, building on the benefits of the North East Link Project, which will connect the M80 Ring Road with the Eastern Freeway, making it easier to get around Melbourne.

We want to hear what you love about the area and how you travel to help shape concept designs. We're also seeking planning submissions as part of clause 52.03 planning approvals.

The project follows level crossing removals at Grange Road, Alphington and Lower Plenty Road, Rosanna, duplication of 3.5km of track on the Hurstbridge Line, and construction of new, modern stations at Greensborough and Montmorency.

To have your say, visit Engage Victoria by 11.59pm, Tuesday 23 December 2025.
