Have your say on Spotswood level crossing removal

Melbourne’s west is set for another transport boost, with the community now invited to have their say on the Hudsons Road, Spotswood Level Crossing Removal Project.

The dangerous and congested Hudsons Road level crossing will be removed by building a new rail bridge over the road, boosting safety and improving traffic flow through the area.

A new Spotswood Station will open to passengers in 2028 featuring improved lighting, CCTV, lifts and stairs, making it more accessible and easier for people to catch the train.

Expert assessments determined a rail bridge is the best design solution for the area, avoiding land acquisition and the need to relocate underground utilities, enabling faster construction and less disruption for locals.

Elevating the rail line and the station also creates opportunity for a more vibrant station precinct, with new open spaces under the rail line, better walking and cycling connections, and more trees and greenery along the rail corridor.

Options to incorporate parts of the original station building into the new transport precinct will be considered for the final designs.

As part of early planning, locals are being encouraged to help shape concept designs for the new station precinct, providing feedback on how they move around the area and what’s important to them, by Monday 6 October at Engage Victoria.

Locals will also be able to attend community information sessions to ask questions and learn more about the project on Tuesday 16 September or Saturday 20 September in the Main Hall of the South Kingsville Community Centre. Registration is required.

Getting rid of the Hudsons Road level crossing will boost safety and ease congestion for the thousands of motorists who get stuck at these boom gates, which are down for more than 50 minutes when up to 50 trains pass through in the morning peak.

The Werribee Line will be level crossing free by 2030.
