We recently lent a hand to the Friends of Kororoit Creek, a not-for-profit group working to protect and enhance the environment and habitat corridor along the Kororoit Creek.
Working together, the group pulled out 30 large bags of invasive weeds before planting almost 200 native shrubs and grasses.
The Friends of Kororoit Creek group is busy all year round, with plantings during the cooler months, maintenance of new and previous planting sites, working bees, art projects, workshops and education campaigns.
In the coming months, we will plant more than 50,000 trees, plants and grasses at the new Deer Park Station precinct, including 500 saplings that will grow into mature trees.
This landscaping will increase tree canopy coverage in Deer Park, contributing to the ‘Greening the West’ strategy, which aims to increase tree foliage and plant life in the western suburbs, bringing environmental and economic benefits and most importantly, positive impacts on the health and wellbeing of those who live there.
When the new, modern Deer Park Station is complete in late 2023, it will include an air-conditioned waiting room, 150 new and upgraded car parks, a multi-bay bus interchange, improved connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists, including a north-south connection between both sides of the new station.
We’re removing 110 dangerous and congested level crossings across Victoria, with 72 already gone for good, ahead of schedule. The Mt Derrimut Road level crossing was removed earlier this year, it was the 68th level crossing to go, making the Geelong and Ballarat train lines level crossing free between Deer Park and the city.
