It's action stations at Croydon

Croydon’s modern new transport hub continues to shape, marking a milestone moment with the arrival of the first station building.

The building was craned into place in the station’s northern car park, which will be the site of the new premium Croydon Station being built as part of the Coolstore Road level crossing removal project.

The station, which will feature elevated platforms and 2 entrances and forecourts, is being manufactured in a modular design so it can be built offsite and delivered in stages, minimising disruption to train services and other project works.

The communications equipment building is the first of 5 buildings that will make up the station and will house critical rail network communications when the station opens by 2025.

The modular station construction method is being increasingly adopted across level crossing removal projects, with benefits including a shorter construction time and reduced disruption.

When completed, the Croydon Transport Hub will feature a 687m long rail bridge, new Croydon Station, a 14-bay bus interchange with shelters and seating, and new road connections under the rail bridge to replace the dangerous and congested Coolstore Road level crossing and roundabout.

The Lilydale Line will be level crossing free by 2025. In total, 110 level crossings will be removed across Melbourne by 2030, with 72 already gone for good.
