Members of the community had an opportunity to get close to the action when the Keon Parade Level Crossing Removal team welcomed 15 members of the nearby Al Alawi Mosque and 15 members of the Prace community centre for a site tour.
The tours showcased the construction of the rail bridge and works to remove the dangerous and congested level crossing at Keon Parade.
Participants had the unique opportunity to meet the engineers overseeing the construction of the rail bridge, were provided with insights into project progress, as well as explanations about the significant safety and traffic improvements the project will bring.
The tour groups were also able to view an L-beam being lifted onto piers across Keon Parade.
Level Crossing Removal Project Director, Andrew Pepplinkhouse, said site tours were a good way to provide local stakeholder groups with a deeper understanding of the project complexities and highlight the benefits for the community when complete.
“It was a fantastic opportunity to be able to step members of the community through the project and answer all of their questions to provide them with a deeper understanding of a significant transport infrastructure project that will ultimately change the way the local community will travel and use the area,” he said.
With construction well underway, Keon Parade will be boom gate free with the new Keon Park Station open to the community in 2025.
