The Keon Parade level crossing removal project team has partnered with Prace, an adult community education centre located nearby in Reservoir to inform students of upcoming works in their area.
With construction on the project underway, the team hosted 3 interactive information sessions recently to prepare locals for upcoming works, which will see a rail bridge built over Keon Parade and a new Keon Park Station.
The team spoke with students studying English as their second language, and students from Prace College, an independent school offering a supportive and inclusive alternative to mainstream education for young people aged 15-18.
The team explained an overview of the project, including the timeframes and construction methodology, as well as upcoming disruptions to roads and rail.
To ensure everyone understood the information session, one of the classes was assisted by 5 interpreters. The groups were split into Farsi, Somali, Mandarin, Vietnamese and Arabic, with a project team member talking through each slide before the interpreter explained in their own language.
The project team welcomed the opportunity to speak to everyone at Prace and share this vital information with the local community.
This is just one of the ways the Level Crossing Removal Project is keeping culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities up to date with information about projects in their area.
The dangerous and congested Keon Parade level crossing will be removed by building a 750m long rail bridge over the road, with a brand new Keon Park Station opening to passengers in 2025.
The project will improve safety and reduce congestion for more than 18,000 vehicles travelling through this level crossing each weekday, with boom gates down for more than 41 minutes during the morning peak.
