Kids show the Calder Park Drive team how to build a bridge

Back to Newsfeed

We recently partnered with students at Cana Catholic Primary, Hillside to teach them about how we're removing the nearby level crossing at Calder Park Drive by building a road bridge over the rail line.

The kids participated in the 'Build a Bridge Program', which teaches kids about:

  • why we remove level crossings
  • how a road bridge is built and who is involved
  • how to stay safe around construction.

Over 6 sessions, the future engineers were given a demonstration, and then in teams designed and built their own road bridge using craft supplies.

During the final session, the kids presented their completed bridge to the construction team and their teachers. They explained the design, name and steps taken to build their bridge, along with the challenges they faced during construction.

The construction team were blown away by the efforts of the kids who displayed teamwork, creativity and resilience.
