Lifting big on the Hurstbridge Line

Back to Newsfeed

We’ve made significant progress towards duplicating 3.5km of the Hurstbridge Line and opening 2 new stations at Greensborough and Montmorency by the middle of 2023 — to allow more trains to run more often and reduce crowding on peak services.

In July, a 500-tonne crane installed 9 beams, each 24 metres long and weighing 36 tonnes, to form the new Greensborough Station’s concourse and pedestrian crossing. At Montmorency, piling has been carried out to stabilise and strengthen the soil in preparation to build the new station.

Coming up in September, crews will work around-the-clock to deliver a range of further crucial works along the rail corridor at Greensborough, Montmorency and Diamond Creek.

The works will include installation of the new 50-metre-long Plenty River rail bridge at Greensborough, which will be craned into place in 2 sections. Works will also begin to build platforms for the new Montmorency Station, extend Diamond Creek Station platform 2 and install a new pedestrian crossing behind Diamond Valley College.

During this time, buses will replace trains from 8:30pm Tuesday 6 September 2022 to last service Monday 19 September to allow crews to safety and efficiently get on with the job. More bus information will be provided closer to the works to allow commuters to plan their journeys.
