A massive $50 million investment to revitalise Carrum has been unveiled, which will transform the bayside suburb as part of the Station Street and Eel Race Road Level Crossing Removal Project.
The centrepiece of these beautification works is a new promenade that will connect the heart of Carrum to the foreshore, and create new parkland and picnic areas close to the bay.
Beyond the promenade, Carrum village will also be transformed when the existing train stabling is moved to a site near Kananook Station.
This will create even more landscaped open space and walking and cycling paths between McLeod Road and Eel Race Road, surrounding a modern new Carrum station.
Following extensive community engagement in 2016 and 2017, a significant number of people asked us to look at ways to improve beach access and car parking. Consultation will continue, with further opportunities for people to have input on the promenade design.
In the next few months, a Community Revitalisation Reference Group led by specialist urban designers, will be established to work with the winning contractor to turn the community’s ideas into reality.
To make way for the promenade, which will run between the Nepean Highway and the beach, 5 properties will be acquired on the Nepean Highway. We will work closely with all affected properties to assist them through the acquisition process.
