New completion dates for Williamstown Line works

Back to Newsfeed

Due to recent weather conditions and COVID impacts, round the clock works to remove the dangerous and congested Ferguson Street level crossing in Williamstown will now continue until 3am, Friday 17 December.

Buses will continue to replace trains between Newport and Williamstown stations until the last service on Thursday 16 December.

Train services will resume from the first service on Friday 17 December. For more information, please visit the Public Transport Victoria website.

Excavation works in the new rail trench are now complete with around 50,000 cubic metres of clay and rock removed to lower the rail line and make way for a new North Williamstown Station.

We’ve also lifted in the bridge beams that will form the station concourse and installed the lift shafts on either side of the new station.

To prepare for trains resuming on the Williamstown Line, we are now working to install the new rail track and lay ballast and sleepers.

We appreciate this is an inconvenience to Williamstown residents, motorists and commuters but remain committed to removing the dangerous and congested Ferguson Street level crossing as soon as possible.
